Samsāra (Sanskrit, ) is a Buddhist term that literally means "wheel" and is commonly translated as, "cyclic existence",or "cycle of existence". Within Buddhism, samsara is defined as the continual repetitive cycle of birth and death that arises from ordinary beings' grasping and fixating on a self and experiences. Specifically, samsara refers to the process of cycling through one rebirth after another within the six realms of existence, where each realm can be understood as physical realm or a psychological state characterized by a particular type of suffering. Samsara arises out of avidya (ignorance) and is characterized by dukkha (suffering). In the Buddhist view, liberation from samsara is possible by following the Buddhist path.
The picture has as its basis a Vanitas Still life from Pieter Claeszoon, which I used as Background for my Samsara Style on top of the skull.
In the arts, vanitas is a type of symbolic work of art . The Latin word means "vanity" and loosely translated corresponds to the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits in Christian painting.
Impermanence (Pāli:anicca; Sanskrit:anitya): is one of the essential doctrines in Buddhism. The term expresses the Buddhist notion that all of conditioned existence, without exception, is in a constant state of flux. In the picture the flower symbolizes birth the skull death and the watch the running time that leads from one mode of existence to another. The link that holds the concepts of Samsara, Christian Vanitas-Still life and Impermanence together is, that in my opinion, as long as Impermanence is not fully understood, oneself is in Samsara. However if one can realize it, one is in Nirvana.
The whole artwork I did with Inkscape and Gimp, the background is a Photo of a Vanitas Still life from Pieter Claeszoon painted with oil.

Looks great.

There is a verse from the Bible that fits with vanity, I don't remember which one.

There is a verse in the bible which goes like thiz: Vanitas vanitatum omnia vanitas. The verse is translated as Vanity of vanities; all is vanity by the King James Version of the Bible. Vanity is used here in its older sense of "futility". Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless is the rendering by The New International Version of the Bible.
